watching some birds

hmm…. someone thinks that using a 4X4 is fun but it ruins the surface and destroys the environment

This is safe !

running across the grass

looking for water – the sphagnum moss is for drinking it from

Coal – one of the signs of the old mines ,

found some old iron

I use a technique to get feeling back into my hands after getting them wet

this old mining area has been destroyed by the water authorities for no known reason yet they allow 4X4 drivers to destroy the environment ?

on the trigg which was covered with frost and ice  – be careful this is not easy !

we went off path

note from dad – this is the terrain that Jake can cover in the dark , please be careful the grass will tire you out and twist your ankle if you get this wrong  -what Jake makes look easy is not !
Note from dad :

Note from dad :this is at Jake’s neck height -we don’t normally go this way  though i am aware of this as a marker and so we keep well away from this area  – please be aware of this  if you have limited  visibility in fog/sleet/dark  ,This has been left in place after the work to upgrade the mast to digital  was  completed  several months ago ,

my dad’s trainer  after one small bog !

I have just got out of one bog which was above one of my knees !

getting out backwards from a bog – my dad is teaching me to self rescue myself from these bogs  !

Two Lads to Rivington and back again in fog/deep bog

route
around 4 miles in very foggy and failing light ,
the bogs were very deep tonight between the pike and the mast ,
Jake was at one point thigh deep !
very wet underfoot and wind chill left it feeling cold ,
This run was to test equipment and Jake’s navigation .
for people who are unaware Jake has a full set of safety kit on him , full cover, phone, online GPS tracker -there are no blackout areas for the GPS on this route  , whistle, walkie talkie ,headlamp ,spare torch, Two strobe lights  -1 mile visibility , Hi reflective clothing, spare clothing, food .compass/map . we take Jake’s safety very seriously, the clothing he uses is waterproof, multi layer high performance, His trainers are Walsh trainers designed for these conditions, Jake is very experienced on these fells but we err on the side of caution and kept to easy navigation routes. please be careful what Jake makes look easy really isn’t in the dark and poor conditions. Please be careful !

Safety :
Black ice on the roads , – 1 to -3 with a small wind chill felt like -5

“Although Winter Hill is a wonderful “playground” and a place of great
beauty and fascination for many of us, we should always be aware of the
hidden dangers at all times, and do all we can to minimise them.
Unfortunately, many of us like the bleakness and solitude of the place,
and often go wandering around on our own – and at times when there is
perhaps nobody else around on the moors – and in the most appalling
weather conditions! Some would call us foolhardy, but this is our choice
and what we choose to do – and we would defend our right to do just this
– so long as we are all aware of the possible dangers and we dress and
equip ourselves to minimise the risks.
In poor weather never underestimate Winter Hill. The bogs really ARE
there. The visibility really CAN vanish totally within 60 seconds. The
body surface temperature plus the chill factor for those unsuitably
dressed, really CAN drop to –10C or more on top of the Hill.
DO take care on Winter Hill ….. but enjoy it! Remember. It CAN bite”

Spaghetti carbonara  or Pasta alla carbonara
I have been to Italy we drove from Prague and stayed near Venice

 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pizza
http://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/type-of-dish/italian/pizza/four-seasons-pizza.html

“Lazio style: Pizza in Lazio (Rome), as well as in many other parts of Italy, is available in two different styles: (1) Take-away shops sell pizza rustica or pizza al taglio. This pizza is cooked in long, rectangular baking pans and relatively thick (1–2 cm). The crust is similar to that of anEnglish muffin, and the pizza is often cooked in an electric oven. It is usually cut with scissors or a knife and sold by weight. (2) In pizza restaurants (pizzerias), pizza is served in a dish in its traditional round shape. It has a thin, crisp base quite different from the thicker and softer Neapolitan style base. It is usually cooked in a wood-fired oven, giving the pizza its unique flavor and texture. In Rome, a pizza napoletana is topped with tomato, mozzarella, anchovies and oil (thus, what in Naples is called pizza romana, in Rome is called pizza napoletana).
Types of Lazio-style pizza include:
Pizza romana (in Naples): tomato, mozzarella, anchovies, oregano, oil;
Pizza viennese: tomato, mozzarella, German sausage, oregano, oil;
Pizza capricciosa (“capricious pizza”): mozzarella, tomato, mushrooms, artichokes, cooked ham, olives, oil (in Rome, prosciutto raw ham is used and half a hard-boiled egg is added);
Pizza quattro stagioni (“four seasons pizza”): same ingredients for the capricciosa, but ingredients not mixed;” taken from  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pizza
